Faith Under Fire: Supporting the Underground Church in Iran

The church in Iran is one of the most persecuted in the world due to severe governmental restrictions for practicing Christianity. With a population of about 84 million people only 2 million people identify as Christians. Iran regards Christians as a national security threat — particularly members and supporters of Evangelical Christians who converted from Islam and are often accused of having ties to foreign groups. Many of these individuals have been prosecuted for “oharabeh,” or enmity against God, an offense that carries a potential death sentence. Evangelizing is strictly prohibited, and Muslims who convert can face death under Iran’s apostasy laws.

Pushed underground, Persian-speaking Christians now meet only in house churches, facing constant threats of raids, arrests, interrogation, torture, and prosecutions that often end in prison.

Iran Alive Ministries mission is to transform Iran into a Christian nation one soul at a time.  By using modern satellite broadcasting they have been able to reach an estimated 130 million viewers in Iran and neighboring nations and have planted one of the largest underground church networks inside Iran.  Bibles are smuggled and distributed.
